In a huge win, the Victorian Labor Government has announced a fairer price for rooftop solar!
Thanks to the work of thousands of Solar Citizens across the state, the Government has kept their election promise and will instate sweeping reforms that recognise the real value that solar delivers to our communities.
Battery storage is here! its new exciting and every one should get one! But how much does it cost?
Lets bust a few myths, battery storage is not new, batteries have been used to power homes for over 100 years. We have been installing battery back up and off grid support systems in to homes for over 8 years. What has changed is the marketing hype with every major player telling you they have the Best battery, its dirt cheap and your power bills will just disappear. Wrong! the cheapest retro fit system we can supply starts at $10-12,000. For me info read on.
As part of our on site solar Service we check the anti islanding of your solar system.
The Anti islanding test is nothing to do with islands, but refers to the operation of your Grid connected inverter, there is a strict requirement under the Australian standards that the inverter detaches from the grid and reattaches to the grid in a set time. This requirement is for the safety of all concerned working on the grid, for example if a grid connected inverter fails to detach, some one working on the system or grid may be electrocuted. Whilst the cases of this occurring are very few there are some internal inverter failures that could allow the inverter to continue working. The likely hood of this occurring increases with older and cheaper inverters.
Are batteries guilty as charged?
Worldwide, the use of energy storage from renewable sources is rising, as more countries commit to renewable energy targets and attempt to reduce costs. As an example, Australia has experienced remarkable growth in installations of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in recent years. Energy storage technologies are the next logical step; once they are sufficiently available at the right price point, they are likely to have a similar market penetration to solar PV.
The present lag in scientific understanding of battery energy storage systems at the domestic and small commercial level is contributing to a clear gap in policy development for battery storage best practices. The difference in pace between the development of standards versus the technology is likely to be a significant policy issue on a global scale.
So who is qualified and who should you trust to install a battery system at your house, and what type of battery?
In short only someone with a lot of experience and qualificatons, Read on.
Fire sparks concerns over lack of standards on battery storage
By Giles Parkinson on 18 March 2016
Images of an “exploded” lithium-ion battery storage device in a household garage in Victoria have been doing the
rounds of social media, highlighting the risks and the lack of formal standards in a technology that is expected to be
at the heart of a booming billion dollar industry in Australia.
It is estimated that 50,000 battery storage systems could be installed in Australia over the next 12 months, and more than a million within a decade. Some suggest more than two million homes could have battery storage in a relatively short time.
To Store or not to store that is the question.
What batteries should i use?
What type or storage system is right for me?
Will i still have power when the grid is down?
Sodium Nickel Chloride Sonick FIAMM Batteries now in stock. We are proud to announce after 2 years of research and testing that we have this fantastic battery on board. Made in Switzerland, very compact, extremely high energy density, safest battery type available, BMS built in.

The benefits of keeping the solar panels clean when you look at this image are obvious, they will produce lots more power.
Why not get a full system check by a solar specialist at the same time?
Battery storage systems tend to have a payback period of 7-14 years (depending on a lot of factors) and
so early adopters will want to seriously consider storage, as 5- 10 years is about the time line that the
lithium batteries will be due for replacement.
Mixing it up, old and new panels together can it be done?
Some things to look for when evaluating off grid batteries, for your off Grid System.
Get it wrong and the most expensive part of your system will need replacing before you know it.
